EPR SPECTROSCOPY AS A UNIQUE TOOL FOR THE STUDY OF PHOTOINDUCED PROCESSES
Zuzana Barbierikova is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. She has been engaged in the spectroscopic studies of photoinduced processes undergoing in homogeneous (e.g., biologically active organic compound) and heterogeneous (e.g., nanostructured semiconductor-based photocatalysts) systems since her studies and has become a skilled researcher in the field of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, focusing her efforts towards the assessment of the structure - activity relationship of the photoactive materials. Her current research interests are predominantly related to various aspects of free radical chemistry and photocatalysis.
Despite her relatively short scientific career the number of papers published in prestigious international journals (to date 35 papers) and positive response in the scientific community (more than 160 citations) document the high standard of her research. In the course of the last decade she was involved in various collaborative research projects with several European Institutes. In 2016 she was awarded as The Scientist of the Year at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava in the category Young Researcher. A year later she became the first National Laureate for the L´Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science award in the category under the age of 35.
