PLANT IN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES: FROM BIOMONITORING TO REMEDIATION

Based on the researches I have led during the last 15 years, I have gained an extensive knowledge plant physiology, plant responses to stresses and phytotechnologies. I have manly studied interactions between heavy metals and plants, in particular in the area of the former lead smelter Metaleurop Nord (the biggest lead smelter in Europe which had contaminated 150 km2). My research activities aim to:

  • study the impacts of organic or metallic pollutant, or contaminated matrices on plants;
  • assess environmental risks and biomonitor environment using plants;
  • develop phytotechnologies to manage highly contaminated;
  • evaluate human risks linked with the ingestion of crops/vegetables grown on contaminated sites.

In 2018, I joined one of the leading research laboratories in Environmental Sciences in Europe: Ecolab in Toulouse (with more than 120 scientists and 80 PhD students). My main current research axis are:

  • phytotechnologies to manage and restore marginal lands (brownfields, contaminated areas, degraded agricultural soils;
  • risk assessment of contaminated matrices (soils, waters, sediments) using plant models;
  • (nanomaterials, antibiotics, microplastics…).
